Dear friends,
How are you? Really, how are you?
How are you feeling emotionally, physically, and spiritually today? Are you feeling optimistic about September and about the fall? Or are you Zoomed out and stressed out by the world around you and Covid-19?
Take a moment to check in with yourself. Put your hand over your heart and take a deep breath. There is no hurry or right answer here. Allow yourself to be exactly where you are. That’s how I try to start each day, assuring myself that I am exactly where I am supposed to be. And I try not to judge myself when I realize I am not in a good place.
Welcome back! I am so grateful to be here again! My break from writing this year felt different in so many ways. So much has happened between June and now. Last summer I felt free, inspired and safe. This summer, I have been practicing detachment and letting go. I have been letting go of expectations, demands, worries and of things, lots of things. Letting go of possessions is always a good place for me to start. It literally clears space in my physical space which makes space for me, emotionally and spiritually.
What does it mean to let go or practice detachment? Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra 1.12 gave me some direction and guidance this summer. It says “That can be controlled through practice and non-attachment”. These two spiritual friends can really help us along the way. One is consistent practice and the other is letting go.
Consistent practice sounds overwhelming. But what if I told you that taking 5 conscious breaths a day, every day is consistent practice. Everyone has time to do that and this practice can assist and guide us in letting go; releasing stress, expectations, whatever needs to be released as you exhale.
Try it for a week and let me know how you feel. As we approach the Fall Equinox on September 22, invokethe quality of balance to the breath and this upcoming season.
In health and peace,
Karon
