Keep Going
Breath by breath, day by day. I keep going.
As we move toward winter, it often becomes more difficult to find that get -up- and- go energy I am so familiar with, especially this year. I remind myself to stay focused and draw nourishment from what I love…yoga, baking, reading and walking in nature with friends or my dog, Zuma. Doing more of what fuels my body, my spirit, my curiosity and my soul is more important than ever. Practicing mindfulness and self-care can better support not only ourselves but our friends and family.
Today, my sister and I had to move my mother into a memory care facility. She has Alzheimer’s and my father, at 94, is no longer able to care for her. I was not able to travel to California and assist with the move, however, I was able to be present for anything and everything that came up. They seem to have managed everything without me. I was there in support all day, here, practicing, guiding others to breathe and move. I took a couple short, quiet walks. Every breath, every step and my meditations were dedicated to my mother and my family, present (though not in person), with her move and hopes for an easy transition. It was another day of the exhausting days of this pandemic. And I keep going. When I feel like I am out of steam, I dig deep and keep going.
Find a practice or a ritual that is important or meaningful to you as you approach the Winter Solstice. It can be as simple as sitting and breathing for one minute. My ritual during the pandemic has been to write 3 lines every night in my pandemic notebook. I know I will never remember the specifics of this past year and thought I want to forget, it helps me summarize my days.
I hope you and yours have a lovely, peaceful holiday. Breathe. Keep going. Breathe…..
In light and health and love,
Karon
