A Grand Re-Entrance
Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment - Buddha
Each time I leave or enter my house, I see a statue of Buddha at my doorway and I am reminded to admire and invoke what inspires my best self. Some days it may be about my teaching and on others, I may simply observe if I am calm or agitated. Lately, it has been a reminder to stay calm and steady and a voice inside me repeats “carry on” or “you can do this!” .
It has snowed a lot in New York this winter and my “reminder” friend has been buried for the past several months. When I walked by the statue yesterday, he started to peak his head out and I immediately thought about how I (and all of us) have been essentially hiding for over a year.
I am scheduled to be vaccinated at the end of March. I can’t help but think about how I will re-enter my life again and what new form it will take. It’s fun to dream about. Each time I start to dream about the future or mourn this past year, I catch myself and try to come to the present moment. I remember, “how do I want to be today? and what am I doing NOW?”. It’s a constant battle, especially now. The snow is melting, Spring is in the air, and the thought of re-entering the world, traveling to see my parents, throwing a big party and maybe even teaching in-person soon, seems to distract me from right now. I often feel like a toddler moving from one toy to the next.
For now, I am trying to stay in the moment preparing the soil to get ready for whatever blossoms in Spring and for when I re-enter the world after my vaccination. After this past year, I am ready for whatever emerges and reveals itself to me.
Looking forward to seeing you in-person soon!
Air hugs, for now,
Karon
