Keep Something Beautiful In Your Heart
My quest for the month of February is to find something beautiful to hold in my heart. It has been a tough and exhausting year. My patience is often running thin. I am running on empty. When I get to this point, I stomp my feet, do a bit of complaining, move my body, do some breathing and try to clear it out.
John O’Donohue is my inspiration for this month. It’s cold and dark on the East Coast. I have been mostly indoors avoiding the virus and awaiting my turn for the vaccination.
“There are times when life seems little more than a matter of struggle and endurance, when difficulty and disappointment form a crust around the heart…the heart hardens. Yet though the music of the heart may grow faint, there is in each of us an unprotected place that beauty can always reach out and touch. It was Blaise Pascal who said: In difficult times you should carry something beautiful in your mind.” - John O’Donohue
Finding beauty in my mind and heart has been my salvation during this time. Though it’s grey and cold outside, I picture my favorite bright spots in LA when I sit for my meditation. I listen to music, light a fire, make my favorite foods, and study new things that makes me feel curious again. This winter, I decided to start my own seedlings indoors. It’s been fun to take care of the small plants and exciting to watch them grow. I look forward to their nutritious gifts in the Spring and the beauty the flowers will bring to me.
In beauty and light,
Karon
