A Change In Plans
A Change in Plans
Around this time of year I often begin to feel the dreary chill of winter start to melt away and feel ecstatic about the promise and lightness of Spring. I look forward to my first siting of forsythia in bloom, assuring me the warmth and light are peaking around the corner.
This year, for good reason, I have had a change of heart. I have experienced fear, anxiety, confusion and helplessness. Like all of you, every plan I have had this month has been cancelled. My calendar went from not being able to fit in a one hour tea with a friend to being frighteningly open, overnight. My classes at New York Presbytarian Hospital were the first to be cancelled three weeks ago. I knew, then, that this was going to be a long haul and that I was going to need to dig deep into my resiliency and positive attitude bag. At first, when I reached in, I came out empty handed. And then, something happened. I had an a-ha moment. I was going through something familiar. It reminded me of so many of the disasters I had already been through; major earthquakes, riots, 911 and serious illness. Through all of them, my yoga and my community is what pulled me through. After 911, many looked to yoga and meditation for comfort in heart, body and mind. I was able to assist many in their healing process and was on the frontlines of helping alleviate people’s stress and anxiety.
In light of recent events, I will be conducting all my classes and private sessions remotely via Zoom. Many have found these remote sessions to be very fulfilling and allows us to both respect social distancing and, under the circumstances, be more relaxed, so I may better serve you. I encourage you to try a remote yoga session as the need for conscious movement and relaxation is vital and important at this time. Get a group together and meet at a weekly yoga class in my virtual, sunny studio facing the Hudson River. Drop me an email: karonyoga@gmail.com to schedule.
There has been much change since the first email I received from the hospital three weeks ago. This has been a wonderful teaching in letting go, slowing down and creating space for my health and the health of those around me. We all have had to make changes in our plans and now we can plan to make some big changes in our lives. Be well and take care.
In good health and ease,
Karon
A practice to share
Practice loving kindness while washing your hands or sanitizing.
As you wash your hands, say out loud or to yourself:
May all beings be safe
May all beings be happy
May all beings be healthy
May all beings live with ease.
That’s 20 seconds, right?
